This historic site of Shepherdstown, West Virginia lies in the Shenandoah Valley, along the shores of the Potomac River. First settled by colonist Thomas Shepherd in 1734, the town was later chartered in 1762. The natural springs that run through the town contributed to the early success and increased inhabitancy of the area. Today, nearly 2,000 West Virginians call Shepherdstown home.
At the heart of the community is Shepherdstown University, a state funded educational institution. The student body population adds a wonderful energy and vibrancy to the community. There are a number of restaurant choices in and around Shepherdstown, including American, Asian, Italian and Mexican cuisine. Amenities such as pharmacies, banks, groceries and other retailers can be found close by in neighboring towns. To the north, Hagerstown offers both premium outlets and Valley Mall. Shepherdstown boasts six parks, including Rumsey Monument Park overlooking the Potomac River. There are also a number of state and national parks located within a short drive.
